Realtimelapse (2012)

Realtimelapse is a two-screen digital projection installation including a seven-hour real-time animation.  Originally commissioned by the DLi Museum & Art Gallery (Dec 2012-Mar 2013), Realtimelapse has also been shown at Baltic (June 2013) and headlined an exhibition at the Hatton Gallery as part of the Northern Design Festival (Sep-Dec 2013), supported with works by Victor Pasmore, Richard Hamilton and Alan Davie amongst others.

Made possible with funding from Arts Council England, Realtimelapse presents two animations of a virtual sun passing over a digital 3D model of Victor Pasmore’s Apollo Pavilion, an iconic example of 1960s public art in Peterlee, County Durham.  One animation is set on the winter solstice (21 December) and played in real time, giving it the appearance of a still image. The other is set on the summer solstice (21 June) and is speeded up in timelapse fashion, a period of 24 hours flashing before the viewer in a matter of minutes.
